The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has projected that Gombe State will experience between 107 and 140 days of rainfall in 2025.

This forecast was revealed in the agency’s 2025 Seasonal Climate Prediction (SCP) report, shared in Gombe on Thursday by the state’s Meteorological Manager, Gayus Musa.

According to the report, total rainfall across the state is expected to range from 606mm in Nafada, located in the north, to 789mm in Shongom, in the south. Rainfall is predicted to begin on May 27 in Shongom and end by November 3 in Yamaltu/Deba.

NiMet anticipates that most parts of the state will have a normal rainy season, though some areas may experience a shorter duration than usual.

Additionally, severe dry spells lasting 21 days or more are expected in four local government areas: Nafada, Yamaltu/Deba, Dukku, and Funakaye.

Musa advised farmers to consider these predictions when planning their agricultural activities to minimize losses.

He noted that NiMet’s 2024 forecast had a 94% accuracy rate, assuring stakeholders of the reliability of this year’s projections.

He also called on authorities to take proactive steps in addressing environmental challenges linked to the rainy season.

Musa praised Governor Inuwa Yahaya’s efforts in combating climate change through tree planting campaigns, erosion control, and drainage maintenance.
