Suspected Boko Haram insurgents have attacked the village of Kwaple near Chibok Local Government Area in Borno State, killing at least 15 people and abducting several others during a funeral gathering.
The assault occurred around 7 p.m. on Monday as residents gathered to pay their final respects to a deceased community member.
Confirming the incident, Chibok LGA Chairman Modu Mustapha said, “The terrorists attacked during a funeral. A lot of people were killed.”
A local resident, who asked to remain anonymous, reported that most of the victims were men and that several mourners were taken by the attackers. “It was a horrific scene.
They came in shooting. From what I’ve heard, 15 people were killed,” the source said.
In addition to the killings and abductions, the assailants reportedly set fire to an EYN church, five houses, and other properties in the village.
Efforts to reach the Borno State Police Command for further details were unsuccessful, as spokesperson ASP Nahum Daso did not respond to calls or messages.
