A Kaduna Magistrates’ Court has sentenced a 33-year-old man, Salisu Abubakar, to eight months in prison for stealing wrappers valued at N830,000.
The incident occurred on April 18 at Ungwan Rimi Road, Kaduna.
Abubakar, a resident of Liberia Road, Malali, was given an option to pay a N50,000 fine in place of serving the full jail term.
Magistrate Ibrahim Emmanuel also ordered the return of the stolen wrappers to the rightful owner and warned the convict to avoid further criminal acts.
The convict pleaded guilty to the charge, and the prosecution, led by Chidi Leo, requested a summary trial under Section 286 (2) of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, 2015.
According to the prosecutor, Abubakar and two accomplices—who are still at large—broke into the shop of the complainant, Rabiu Nasir, and stole the items.
Abubakar was apprehended with the stolen goods, while the others escaped.
