A 24-year-old Point of Sale (POS) attendant, Yusuf Olamilekan, was on Monday arraigned before the Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun State for allegedly stealing N1 million from his employer.

Olamilekan, whose residential address was not disclosed, pleaded not guilty to the charge of theft.

According to the prosecutor, Inspector E.O. Adaraloye, the defendant committed the offence on April 7 at around 6:00 p.m. in Sango-Ota.

He alleged that Olamilekan unlawfully withdrew N1 million from the account of Emeka and Jane Company, his employer, without authorization and used the funds to gamble, eventually losing the entire amount.

The prosecutor stated that the offence violated Section 383 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun State, 2006.

Presiding Magistrate O.O. Fadairo granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000, with one surety in like amount.

The court stipulated that the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction, be gainfully employed, and present evidence of tax payment to the Ogun State government.

The case was adjourned until May 27 for hearing.
