Tragedy in Ondo: Grader accident claims lives of mother and child, Ose LG chairman mourns

A tragic incident occurred in Ute, a community in Ose Local Government Area of Ondo State, where a motor grader reportedly crushed a woman and her child along the Olujewu–Igbatoro Road.

The accident, which involved a grader deployed for rural road rehabilitation by the local government, was reportedly caused by brake failure.

In a statement titled “Ose Local Government Mourns Tragic Loss in Ute Community,” the Chairman of the council, Hon. Barr. Clement Kolapo Ojo, expressed deep sorrow over the loss and extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family.

“It is with profound sorrow and a heavy heart that I address the people of Ute and the entire local government over this deeply saddening incident,” Ojo said.

“A hardworking mother and her innocent child, on a routine trip to their farm, had their lives tragically cut short. Words cannot express our sadness.”

He explained that the grader involved in the incident was part of the council’s rural development initiative aimed at improving local infrastructure.

“What was intended to enhance the community’s wellbeing has now turned into a moment of deep grief,” he added.

Ojo noted that council officials visited the scene immediately after the incident to console the grieving family and show solidarity with the community.

He emphasized that the visit was a genuine gesture of compassion and responsibility.

He further assured that a thorough investigation has begun to determine the exact cause of the mechanical failure, and all safety measures would be reviewed to prevent a recurrence.

“We are committed to supporting the affected family emotionally and materially.

Their pain is shared by all of us in the local government,” he said.

Concluding the statement, the chairman offered prayers for the deceased and reaffirmed the council’s dedication to ensuring the safety and wellbeing of its residents.
