A 20-year-old man, Muhammad Salisu, has been taken into police custody in Jigawa State for allegedly murdering his father, Salisu Abubakar, with a machete.
The tragic incident occurred around 10 a.m. in Bakin Kasuwa Quarters, Sara District, within the Gwaram Local Government Area.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Shi’isu Adam, confirmed the details of the incident in a statement released on Monday from Dutse.
According to DSP Adam, Muhammad attacked his father with the machete, causing severe injuries to his shoulder, chest, and neck. Despite immediate emergency efforts to save the victim, including his transportation to the Federal Medical Centre in Birnin Kudu, Salisu Abubakar was pronounced dead by medical staff.
After the assault, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Sara swiftly led a team to the scene, secured the area, and arranged for the deceased’s body to be transported to the hospital.
His remains were later released to the family for burial rites.
The police also recovered the weapon used in the attack, a machete, as part of the investigation.
DSP Adam confirmed that Muhammad Salisu has been arrested and the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Dutse for further investigation.
While the motive for the attack has not yet been determined, authorities are actively working to uncover all relevant details.
The police have appealed to the public for any information that could assist the investigation and have assured that justice will be pursued.
