Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State has reaffirmed his administration’s determination to make agriculture a top priority in the pursuit of economic advancement and food security across the state and Nigeria.
Speaking at the 10th anniversary celebration of the Ondo State Agricultural Commodities’ Association (OSACA) in Akure on Tuesday, the governor—represented by his deputy, Mr. Olajide Adelami—emphasised the importance of supporting farmers to combat hunger and stimulate economic progress.
He noted that agricultural development has the potential to create job opportunities for young people in both rural and urban communities, while also improving living standards and reducing poverty.
“Our vision is to use agriculture as a catalyst for development by empowering youths, alleviating poverty, and enhancing the welfare of our citizens,” Aiyedatiwa said. “We will continue to back organisations like OSACA and provide farmers with the support they need to thrive.”
The governor also praised OSACA for its role in promoting capacity building, expanding market access, and contributing to the state’s economic growth. He assured farmers of continued government assistance, including the provision of farming tools and other inputs.
In his remarks, OSACA Chairman Chief Abiodun Adejo described the association’s 10th anniversary as a celebration of ten years of hard work and dedication to agricultural transformation in Ondo State. He said OSACA was created to serve as a bridge between farmers and government authorities.
Adejo urged the state government to align with federal agricultural initiatives and invest in farming equipment, such as tractors, to ease the burden on local farmers.
“If agriculture is given proper attention, we believe hunger will become a thing of the past. Our farmers are eager to work, provided they receive the needed support,” he stated.
Also speaking at the event, Mr. Akeem Ogundeko, Director of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security in Ondo State, pledged ongoing government support, especially in the distribution of agricultural inputs and other benefits to farmers.
