An Area Court sitting in Centre-Igboro, Ilorin, Kwara State, has officially dissolved the Islamic marriage between Fatimah Salihu and Suleiman Olarongbe, following a petition filed by Salihu.

Presiding Judge, Toyin Aluko, granted the divorce on Wednesday after confirming the respondent’s failure to appear in court despite being duly served a civil summons.

According to the court, an affidavit of service was issued on May 6, confirming that Olarongbe had been notified of the hearing.

“With no representation or explanation from the respondent, the court proceeded with the case in accordance with the law,” the judge stated.

As part of the judgment, the court ordered Salihu to observe a three-month iddah (Islamic waiting period) before contracting another marriage.

A copy of the court’s decision will be formally delivered to Olarongbe.

In her testimony, Salihu revealed that she and her husband had been separated for the past decade due to a lack of affection and care.

She urged the court to grant the divorce so she could move forward with her life.
