The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has strongly rejected claims by the All Progressives Congress (APC) that Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has failed in governance.
APC National Secretary, Ajibola Basiru, in an interview with Sunday PUNCH, described Adeleke’s administration as directionless and ineffective.
“The government lacks focus. There’s been failure across all sectors, including education and health.
Thousands of teachers were sacked without replacements, disrupting schools.
The health sector is in disarray, and the health insurance scheme has collapsed,” Basiru alleged.
He also cited rising insecurity and poorly executed infrastructure projects as signs of misgovernance.
Basiru, who is seeking the APC gubernatorial ticket for the 2026 election, said the people of Osun were growing weary of Adeleke’s leadership.
When asked about rumors of Adeleke defecting to the APC, he said, “I am not aware of such a move. He has not approached us.”
Responding, PDP chieftain and National Executive Committee member, Diran Odeyemi, dismissed Basiru’s remarks as baseless and politically motivated.
“Even the blind can see the progress Adeleke has brought to Osun.
Basiru is still struggling to accept the defeat he suffered in 2018, especially in Osogbo and Olorunda, his own area,” Odeyemi said.
He accused Basiru of attempting to discredit Adeleke to boost his own chances in the APC primary.
“He thinks attacking Adeleke will win him support, but he’s out of touch with reality. Osun has seen development under this administration in every ward, not just local governments,” he added.
Odeyemi firmly denied speculation about Adeleke defecting to the APC.
“There’s no truth to it. Why would he join a party he already defeated? APC is not a performing government.
The people of Osun recognize Adeleke’s achievements and won’t be swayed by baseless propaganda,” he said.
