Eighty-six captains of the Nigerian Army have commenced the 2025 Written Promotion Examination, which kicked off today, Monday, in Benin City, Edo State.
The week-long assessment, running from May 12 to 16, is hosted by the Nigerian Army School of Supply and Transport (NASST).
During Sunday’s opening ceremony, Major General Kevin Aligbe, Commander of the Training and Doctrine Command and President of the Examination Board, congratulated the candidates, describing the exam as a vital step in their military careers.
“This examination is a key milestone, representing your progression toward greater responsibility.
It is part of the Army’s structured promotion process aimed at fostering a professional and disciplined officer corps,” he said.
Maj. Gen. Aligbe urged candidates to maintain integrity and discipline throughout the exam, assuring them that proper preparation would lead to success.
He emphasized that passing the exam is mandatory for promotion to the rank of Major and warned that candidates have only three attempts.
Strict warnings were issued against malpractice, including cheating, discussing answers, or breaching security. Offenders, he said, would be disqualified and face disciplinary actions.
To motivate participants, Aligbe announced that top-performing officers would receive awards, commendation letters, and cash prizes.
“Our goal is for everyone to succeed. The marking will be transparent and fair,” he added.
In his welcome remarks, NASST Commandant, Major General Adebayo Adegbite, highlighted the importance of the examination in the professional development of Army officers.
He acknowledged the candidates’ efforts during the one-month preparatory cadre and mock exam and expressed confidence in their performance.
Maj. Gen. Adegbite also advised candidates to stay alert and limit unnecessary movements during their time in Benin due to security concerns.
