The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has predicted a mix of sunshine, cloudiness, and localized thunderstorms across various parts of Nigeria from Sunday through Tuesday.
In its weather outlook released on Saturday in Abuja, NiMet said residents should expect mostly sunny skies with intermittent clouds on Sunday morning.
However, parts of Taraba State in the North may experience morning thunderstorms.
Thunderstorms are also forecast to develop later in the day over several northern states including Sokoto, Kebbi, Kaduna, Taraba, Bauchi, Zamfara, and Adamawa.
In the North-Central region, sunny conditions with occasional cloud patches are expected, with isolated thunderstorms likely over the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Niger, Nasarawa, Kwara, and Kogi states in the morning.
These storms may continue into the afternoon and evening across parts of FCT, Nasarawa, Plateau, Niger, and Benue.
The southern region is expected to see cloudy conditions with chances of morning thunderstorms across Osun, Ondo, Ogun, Imo, Abia, Edo, Delta, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Rivers, Lagos, and Bayelsa states.
Thunderstorms may persist later in the day in many of these areas.
On Monday, NiMet forecasts sunny skies with patches of clouds and possible morning thunderstorms in Taraba State.
Later in the day, isolated storms may hit Kebbi, Taraba, Kaduna, Borno, Zamfara, Sokoto, and Adamawa.
Morning thunderstorms are expected in the southern states of Ondo, Ogun, Edo, Imo, Abia, Osun, Cross River, Delta, Lagos, and Akwa Ibom, with further thunderstorms forecast in the afternoon and evening across Enugu, Anambra, Ebonyi, Imo, Abia, Oyo, Ogun, Osun, Ekiti, Ondo, Delta, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Rivers, and Lagos.
On Tuesday, sunshine with some cloud cover will prevail, with thunderstorms possible over Sokoto, Zamfara, Taraba, Adamawa, Bauchi, Gombe, and Kaduna in the afternoon or evening.
The North-Central region may see morning thunderstorms over Benue, Niger, Kogi, and Kwara states, followed by isolated storms later in the day in FCT, Plateau, Nasarawa, Kwara, and Kogi.
In the south, morning thunderstorms are expected over Rivers, Bayelsa, Delta, Akwa Ibom, and Cross River, with isolated thunderstorms later in the day over most parts of Enugu, Anambra, Ebonyi, Imo, Abia, Oyo, Ogun, Osun, Ekiti, Ondo, Edo, Delta, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Rivers, Lagos, and Delta.
NiMet has urged the public to take precautions ahead of these weather conditions, particularly where thunderstorms are expected.
Strong winds may precede the rains, and residents are advised to secure loose objects, avoid driving in heavy rain, disconnect electrical appliances, and stay away from tall trees to prevent injury from falling branches.
The agency also reminded airline operators to obtain airport-specific weather reports from NiMet for safe flight operation.
