A tragic road accident has claimed the lives of at least 22 members of the Kano State sports delegation who were returning from the National Sports Festival in Ogun State.
The delegation was involved in a fatal crash when their vehicle reportedly plunged off a bridge in Kura Local Government Area of Kano State.
The incident occurred at Dakatsalle Bridge, just before Kura town.
According to eyewitness accounts, the vehicle was carrying 35 passengers. Ado Salisu Gama, one of the survivors, spoke to DAILY POST from his hospital bed at Kura General Hospital.
He confirmed that several individuals died at the scene, including the driver, while others were rushed to the hospital for treatment.
“Twenty-two people have been confirmed dead,” Salisu said.
“The driver is among the deceased. As I speak with you, one more person has just passed away.”
He noted that those injured are currently receiving medical attention, and many remain in critical condition.
Among the casualties are athletes, journalists, medical staff, and team officials.
The delegation had just concluded participation in the festival, where they reportedly secured 29 medals.
Authorities have yet to release an official statement, and further details are expected as investigations and rescue operations continue.
