The Minister of Police Affairs, Senator Ibrahim Gaidam, has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic loss of young athletes from Kano State who died in a road accident while returning from the National Sports Festival held in Ogun State.

Confirming the incident, Chairman of the Kano State Sports Commission, Umar Fagge, said the crash occurred on Saturday when a bus carrying 30 athletes plunged off a bridge, resulting in the death of 20 athletes and injuries to several others.

In a condolence message released on Sunday, Gaidam extended heartfelt sympathies to the government and people of Kano State, as well as to the grieving families. He described the incident as a national tragedy that has plunged the country into mourning.

“This heartbreaking event has cast a shadow of grief across our nation,” the minister said.

“The ministry and the entire police family stand in solidarity during this time of immense sorrow.”

Gaidam paid tribute to the deceased athletes, acknowledging their commitment and the pride they brought to the nation through their sporting achievements.

He praised their legacy of perseverance and excellence, stating that their memory would continue to inspire generations to come.

He offered prayers for the souls of the departed, asking for divine peace and comfort for their families and all those affected by the tragedy.

“May Allah (SWT) grant them Jannatul Firdaus and give their loved ones the strength to bear this loss,” he said.

The minister also wished those injured in the accident a swift and complete recovery, reaffirming the nation’s support for Kano State during this painful period.
