President Bola Tinubu has strongly condemned the killing of 12 travellers in Plateau State, calling the attack “unacceptable and barbaric.”
In a statement released on Sunday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President directed security agencies to ensure the swift arrest and prosecution of those responsible for the attack.
The victims, who included the father and brother of a groom, were reportedly returning from a wedding in Zaria, Kaduna State, and heading to Jos, Plateau State, when they were ambushed and killed.
Tinubu expressed deep concern over the incident and urged the Nigerian Police Force to collaborate with other security and intelligence agencies to bring the perpetrators to justice.
“The President called for calm, assuring citizens that the attackers will not go unpunished,” the statement read.
“He emphasized that the Plateau State Government must take decisive steps in addressing this cycle of violence and work closely with security agencies to uncover the root cause of the attack.”
Reaffirming the constitutional right to freedom of movement, Tinubu warned against any attempts to restrict that freedom through violence and intimidation.
He extended his condolences to the bereaved families and the governments of Kaduna and Plateau states.
