The Rivers State Police Command has confirmed the violent assault and forced resignation of the Sole Administrator of Ahoada-East Local Government Area, Hon.
Goodluck Iheanachor, by a gang of approximately 30 individuals, allegedly led by his own Chief Security Officer (CSO) and Chief of Staff (CoS).
The incident occurred on June 20, 2025, around 1:40 p.m. at the council’s secretariat.
According to the police, Iheanachor was held hostage, physically assaulted, and coerced into signing a resignation letter under duress—a document that later surfaced on social media.
Viral videos from the scene showed the local government administrator being attacked by the mob within the council premises. Another official, Mr. Alabi, Secretary of the Local Government Council, was also seen in the footage being manhandled in a similarly degrading manner.
In a statement released in Port Harcourt, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, described the attack as “heinous” and deeply troubling.
“The Rivers State Police Command is aware and deeply disturbed by the heinous attack on the Sole Administrator of Ahoada-East LGA, Hon. Goodluck Iheanachor,” the statement read.
Iringe-Koko identified the ringleaders of the attack as Mr. Hector Ekakita—the administrator’s CSO—and his Chief of Staff.
She said the attackers assaulted Iheanachor, stole his mobile phones, forced him to sign a resignation letter, and made away with official and personal documents from his office.
The administrator sustained injuries during the ordeal and is currently receiving medical treatment. According to the police, he is in stable condition.
Following the incident, the Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga Adepoju, accompanied by heads of other security agencies, visited the scene and immediately ordered a full investigation.
The CSO, CoS, and others implicated in the attack have been directed to report to the State Police Headquarters on Moscow Road, Port Harcourt, for questioning.
“The Command unequivocally condemns this reprehensible act and has taken swift steps to ensure justice is served,” Iringe-Koko stated, warning that any refusal to comply with the police invitation would attract serious consequences.
She reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to upholding law and order in the state and urged the public to remain calm and cooperate with authorities as the investigation progresses.
