MultiChoice Nigeria has announced a 50 percent reduction in the price of its DStv decoder, cutting the cost from ₦20,000 to ₦10,000 in an effort to attract more customers and address a decline in subscriptions.
The company’s Chief Executive Officer, John Ugbe, disclosed the new development in a statement on Tuesday.
He explained that the initiative is part of MultiChoice’s broader strategy to reward loyal customers and improve access to premium entertainment content.
“We want our customers to feel valued and enjoy top-quality entertainment every day,” Ugbe said. “This ‘We Got You’ campaign is designed to make our content more accessible and show that DStv delivers for everyone — not just football fans.”
He added that the company is repositioning DStv as a platform offering daily value through a variety of content across different genres such as movies, series, children’s shows, and news.
“This means more variety, more engaging content, and more reasons to watch every day,” the statement added.
In addition to the price cut, MultiChoice introduced a special promotional offer, which allows subscribers to enjoy a free upgrade to a higher package tier when they renew their current subscription in full between June 16 and July 31, 2025.
The company explained that both the price reduction and the free upgrade campaign were introduced in response to Nigeria’s current economic challenges, which have affected household budgets.
MultiChoice’s decision comes on the heels of a subscriber loss, with reports showing that the company lost around 1.4 million customers between March 2023 and March 2025.
It’s worth noting that the company had raised its DStv and GOtv package prices three times over the past year — in April and November 2023, and most recently in April 2024, with the new rates taking effect from May 1.
