Gombe SDP suspends four members over alleged misconduct

The Gombe State chapter of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) has suspended four party members for alleged gross misconduct, political disloyalty, and actions considered detrimental to the unity and stability of the party.

The decision was reached during a State Executive Committee meeting, where the party leadership reaffirmed its commitment to discipline and internal cohesion.

The suspended members include Aron Yakubu (Assistant Secretary), Usman Yahaya (Assistant Publicity Secretary), Lukaman Adamu Elkanem (member, Contact and Mobilisation Committee), and Musa Muhammad Ali (Chairman, Gombe Local Government SDP). They have been barred from all party activities pending the outcome of an internal investigation.

In a statement signed by the State Publicity Secretary, Abdulkadir Kumo, the party stressed that no individual is above party rules. “These suspensions are necessary to uphold the integrity and unity of our party,” he said.

As part of interim measures, Muhammad Adamu, popularly known as Auwal SMS, has been appointed acting chairman of the Gombe Local Government chapter.

Kumo warned the affected individuals against presenting themselves as party officials, stating that any such act would be considered a direct challenge to the party’s authority and could attract additional sanctions.

A disciplinary committee has been constituted to investigate the matter and submit its findings within a given timeframe.

The committee is chaired by the party’s State Legal Adviser, Barr. Nuruddeen Bello, and includes Dalhatu Bello Umar (Zonal Chairman, Gombe North), Ibrahim I. Jalo (Zonal Chairman, Gombe Central), Engr. M. Abdulkadir Kumo (State Publicity Secretary), and Muhammad Hassan (Acting State Secretary), who will serve as secretary.

Addressing the party faithful, Kumo urged members to remain united and vigilant.

“No amount of conspiracy, internal sabotage, or external interference will derail the progress we are making,” he said.

He also issued a strong warning to political opportunists, stating, “The SDP is not a platform for impostors or political merchants.

Those serving the interests of our opponents are free to leave – the door is open.”

Kumo called on the public to rely solely on official party communications and to disregard statements from unauthorised sources.

“The SDP is not for sale, not for hijack, and not for compromise,” he declared.

“Our principles are firm. Our loyalty is to the people. Our commitment is to democracy.

We are focused, we are organised, and we are moving forward – without fear,” the statement concluded.
