The Edo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has suspended one of its members, Mrs. Stella Ogbetta, for a period of six months, citing a social media post allegedly harmful to the party’s image.
The suspension, which was first initiated by the party’s leadership in Oredo Local Government Area, was formally ratified by the State Working Committee (SWC) during its meeting on Friday.
In a communiqué signed by the party’s Publicity Secretary, Peter Uwadiae-Igbinigie, and made available to Sunday PUNCH, the APC said the decision was part of efforts to uphold internal discipline and maintain the party’s integrity.
“The SWC expressed strong disapproval of recent acts of misconduct by some members, particularly in the Oredo and Ovia South-West Local Government Areas,” the statement read. “It took special note of a social media publication attributed to Mrs. Stella Ogbetta, which was deemed damaging to the image of the party.”
According to the communiqué, the State Secretary, Lawrence Okah, presented a report from the Oredo LGA Executive Committee recommending a six-month suspension, which the SWC subsequently approved.
The statement added that following the completion of the suspension period, Ogbetta will be required to submit a formal letter of apology to the SWC. Failure to comply may lead to her expulsion from the party.
At the time of reporting, the specific content of the social media post in question had not been independently verified.
