U.S. deports dozens of Nigerians over criminal, immigration offences

The United States has deported several Nigerians found guilty of criminal activities or immigration violations, in a move coordinated with Nigerian security agencies.

The deportees were returned to Nigeria via a chartered flight arranged by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS), in collaboration with the Department of State Services (DSS) and other Nigerian law enforcement partners.

Confirming the development in a post on Wednesday via its official X (formerly Twitter) handle, the U.S. Department of State’s Diplomatic Security Service (DSS) stated:
“DSS special agents work with our partners all over the world to protect America—from both sides of the border. In close coordination with Nigerian law enforcement, our team assigned to @USinNigeria facilitated a @DHSgov charter flight returning dozens of Nigerians with criminal convictions and immigration violations.”

Although the U.S. government did not reveal the exact number of deportees or details of their offences, the country has recently intensified efforts to enforce immigration laws and remove individuals with criminal records.

The deportation reflects ongoing U.S. policy actions aimed at curbing illegal immigration, a stance that gained momentum under former President Donald Trump’s administration.
