Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has launched a new security initiative dubbed Operation Flush Out Kidnappers and Cultists to address rising insecurity across the state.

The operation, unveiled on Sunday, includes the formation of a special security squad tasked with rooting out criminal elements, particularly kidnappers and cultists.

According to a statement by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Fred Itua, the initiative is being coordinated by the Office of the Principal Security Officer (PSO) and the Chief Security Officer (CSO) to the Governor.

Governor Okpebholo emphasized his administration’s commitment to restoring safety and order, declaring that the state will no longer be a haven for violent criminals.

“We will not allow criminality to dictate the future of our state,” he said. “Edo must become safe again—for our children, for investors, and for our people abroad who wish to return home.”

He announced that all security agencies across the state have been placed on high alert and directed the PSO and CSO to enforce the operation rigorously.

He also stressed that the initiative must be driven by professionalism, accountability, and community engagement.

As part of the plan, the state government revealed that the new squad will be made up of vetted recruits—including hunters, vigilantes, and even repentant cultists.

These teams will operate within their respective local government areas to ensure rapid response and local involvement in tackling security threats.

To support their operations, the state will provide vehicles and motorcycles for effective patrols and tactical missions.

Governor Okpebholo expressed optimism that the initiative marks a turning point in the state’s fight against insecurity, with citizens and security forces working together to reclaim communities from criminal elements.
