Insecurity: NSCDC, Ondo Govt. tasks officers to brace up

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and Ondo State Government have tasked officers to brace up for strategic communication and leadership skills to enhance security operations in the state.

Mr Oluyemi Ibiloye, State Commandant of NSCDC, made the call on Thursday in Akure at a two-day capacity building workshop for law enforcement officers organised by the command.

The theme was “Strengthening Personal Effectiveness, Strategic Communication and Leadership Skills for Enhanced Security Operations”.

Ibiloye, who said that security challenges had become increasingly complex and sophisticated, explained that the workshop was organised to strengthen and improve the officers’ operations.

“When security challenges are evolving faster than ever, and public expectations rising just as fast, officers need to learn and adopt new methods to enhance their service deliveries.

“It is no longer enough to be operationally ready, we must also be personally effective, strategically aware, and emotionally intelligent.

“The badge we wear is more than a symbol of authority. It is a daily call to lead, to serve and to make decisions that impact lives.

“As security agencies, we need to put people in minds by sharpening our axe of leadership so that our collective cutting edge stays effective.

“It is also imperative that we equip ourselves with the necessary skills and knowledge to stay ahead and contribute more meaningfully in nation building.

“Remember, it is not the approaches we used yesterday that we use today and it is better for us to be equipped to face the challenges of current confrontations in our country,” he said.

The commandant, therefore, called on the officers to develop leadership skills that would enable them to inspire confidence, build a natural collaboration and drive positive change within their communities.

Also, Mr Taiwo Fasoroti, Secretary to the State Government (SSG), commended NSCDC for the workshop, which he said would help security agencies boost their services in the state.

Fasoroti, represented by Mr Olugbenga Atiba, Senior Special Adviser on Security Matters, said that the state government gave 50 vehicles and communication gadgets to security agencies recently.

The SSG said that the state government would not relent in its efforts to continue supporting and enhancing security in the state.

Similarly, Mrs Rita Micheal, a facilitator, spoke on coping techniques, building resilience, scene control and crisis response.

Michael said the workshop would enable the participants to communicate well in their various fields.

“Training and retraining of personnel will help security agencies to tackle insecurity in the country,” she said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that personnel of Police, Customs, Federal Fire Services, Immigration Services, NDLEA, FRSC, DSS, Army and Amotekun were among the participants.
