Two men, Temitope Olukoya (38) and Wasiu Yaro (45), were on Thursday arraigned before an Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan, Oyo State, over the alleged theft of a gold chain and other valuable items worth millions of naira.
The duo, whose residential addresses were not disclosed, faced charges of conspiracy, stealing, and assault. Both defendants pleaded not guilty.
According to the prosecutor, Inspector Toyin Ibrahim, the incident occurred on June 23 around 7:00 p.m. in the Opoo area of Ibadan.
He alleged that the suspects attacked the complainant, Wasiu Adeita, and made away with a gold neck chain, a wristwatch, a mobile phone, and N2.7 million in cash, among other valuables.
Ibrahim also told the court that the defendants assaulted Adeita with a bottle, causing injuries to his mouth.
He stated that the offences violated Sections 516 and 390(9) of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000.
Magistrate Olaolu Olanipekun granted each defendant bail in the sum of ₦500,000 with two sureties in like sum. The case was adjourned to August 19 for hearing.
