The Registrar of the University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED), Ondo State, Mr. Ezekiel Imole Adeniran, has been assassinated in a chilling incident that has plunged the institution and community into mourning.

Mr. Adeniran, who assumed office as the university’s third substantive Registrar on January 6, 2025, was found dead in his Ondo town residence in the early hours of Thursday, July 17, 2025.

A source within the university confirmed the tragic development, saying, “He was discovered lifeless in his home on Thursday morning. We hope the police will uncover what really happened.”

In an official statement, the university’s Head of Media and Protocol, Mr. Isaac Oluyi, described the registrar’s sudden death as shocking and deeply painful.

“The devastating news has left the entire university community in mourning,” the statement read. “He was present at work on Monday, July 14. The circumstances of his death remain unclear at this point.”

Mr. Oluyi further paid tribute to Adeniran’s commitment to the institution, stating, “He served with dedication and integrity until his untimely death.

Our thoughts are with his family during this difficult time. May his soul rest in peace.”

UNIMED’s Head of Human Resources, Mr. M.A. Akinkuade, also expressed heartfelt condolences, describing the late registrar as a loyal and diligent official whose impact on the university’s development will not be forgotten.

Meanwhile, the Ondo State Police Command has confirmed that the registrar was murdered. Spokesperson SP Olayinka Ayanlade told journalists that the case was reported at the Fanibi Division and investigations are ongoing.

“From initial findings, two men reportedly emerged from a nearby bush and forced an unknown substance into another individual’s mouth.

We are investigating the full circumstances surrounding the attack,” Ayanlade said.

While the precise location of the assault is still being determined, police have pledged to pursue all leads and bring the perpetrators to justice.

Ayanlade urged members of the public with useful information to assist the police in their efforts.
