Residents around Gotar Aliero by Oando in Birnin Kebbi were met with horror on Monday morning after discovering a man lying dead in a pool of blood at the entrance of the central market.
The Kebbi State Police Command identified the victim as 35-year-old Auwal Umar from Katami village in Silame Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
Police spokesperson CSP Nafiu Abubakar said Umar was allegedly killed by his friend following a disagreement earlier in the day.
Investigations revealed that Umar had engaged in a heated argument with 30-year-old Bello Amakwa of Birnin Kebbi at Kara Market. Later that night, Amakwa reportedly returned armed with a knife and stabbed Umar while he was asleep.
Amakwa has been arrested and is currently in custody.
During interrogation, he reportedly confessed to the crime.
Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police, CP Bello M. Sani, strongly condemned the act and urged young people to resolve conflicts peacefully.
He assured the public that the suspect would face the full weight of the law.
