The Nigerian Army on Thursday said it had neutralised several terrorists, arrested 15 suspects, and recovered weapons and military gear in sustained operations across the country.
A military source at Army Headquarters told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the ongoing operations have intensified in various theatres, yielding significant results.
In Borno State, troops of the 151 Task Force Battalion ambushed terrorists in the Sabsawa area of Bama Local Government, killing one and recovering an AK-47 rifle loaded with 28 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition.
Similarly, troops of the 192 Battalion operating along the Pulka–Ngoshe axis in Gwoza Local Government Area eliminated another insurgent and retrieved a second AK-47 rifle.
Blood trails were observed, suggesting additional casualties among the fleeing terrorists.
Five family members of ISWAP/JAS fighters — two women and three children — surrendered to troops at Banki Junction in Bama LGA after fleeing their camp in Bula Daloye village.
Elsewhere in Dikwa LGA, troops of the 50 Task Force Battalion and 134 Special Forces Battalion recovered two artillery shells during an ambush along the Marte–Dikwa road.
In Lagos, operatives of the 9 Brigade arrested 12 individuals posing as military officers at Ojota.
The suspects were found wearing military uniforms and claiming affiliation with a non-existent corps.
Also in the Federal Capital Territory, a suspect in woodland camouflage was arrested in Waru by troops attached to Operation SWEEP.
In the South-East, two suspected cultists were arrested in Umuahia South LGA of Abia State by troops of the 145 Battalion.
Two locally made pistols, six cartridges, and other items were recovered.
In Rivers State, troops of the 343 Artillery Regiment intercepted two wooden boats transporting about 400 litres of illegally refined condensate in Onelga LGA. The suspects fled on sighting the troops.
