The Senate of Umaru Musa Yar’adua University (UMYU), Katsina, has approved the expulsion of 57 students for their involvement in various forms of examination malpractice.

The decision was reached during the university’s 125th Regular Senate Meeting, following recommendations from the Central Examination Misconduct Committee. This was disclosed in a statement issued on Saturday by the Head of Information and Protocol, Hajiya Fatima Sanda.

According to the statement, the committee had earlier investigated reports of exam infractions across several faculties before submitting its findings to the Senate for action.

In addition to the expulsions, five students were rusticated for two semesters (2024/2025 academic session), while their affected examination papers were cancelled.

Two others received official written warnings, which have been permanently recorded in their academic files.

The university reiterated its commitment to upholding academic integrity, stressing that the disciplinary measures reflect its zero-tolerance stance on examination malpractice.

“Students are urged to strictly abide by academic regulations and avoid any form of misconduct, as future violations will attract equally severe sanctions,” the statement warned.

UMYU assured the public that it remains steadfast in preserving the credibility and standards of its examination processes.
