We’ve 800,000 members in Rivers – ADC boasts, welcomes Amaechi, others

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Rivers State says its membership has surpassed 800,000, with several high-profile politicians defecting to the party.

The State Publicity Secretary, Luckyman Egila, disclosed this at a news briefing in Port Harcourt, describing the ADC as “a beautiful bride” attracting political heavyweights.

Egila named former governors Rotimi Amaechi and Celestine Omehia, former Peoples Democratic Party National Chairman Uche Secondus, Senator Lee Maeba, and Senator Andrew Uchendu — the party’s current South-South vice chairman — among recent entrants.

He said other notable members include former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Austin Okpara, and former Minister of Transport, Abiye Sekibo.

“These persons have left their former parties and are now full members of the ADC, with membership cards to show for it,” Egila stated, expressing confidence that more defections would follow.

On the party’s growing influence, he said: “We have structures in every local government area and community in Rivers State. As of today, we have over 800,000 members, and the number is growing daily.”

Egila stressed that the ADC had been active long before recent political alignments, contesting the 2023 elections, and insisted the party remains united.

“The African Democratic Congress is united.
We have integrity and do not tolerate any act that will bring the party into disrepute,” he added.
