The Bauchi State Police Command has commenced investigation into the sudden death of a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member in Dambam Local Government Area.

The deceased, identified as 28-year-old Nwokedi Chukwuebuka, was reportedly found unconscious in his lodge in the early hours of Sunday.

The apartment, provided for corps members by colleagues and the Corps Liaison Officer, is located within the community.

Police spokesperson, Ahmed Waziri, confirmed the incident in a telephone interview on Monday, noting that the state Commissioner of Police has ordered a preliminary probe.

“The command received a report of sudden and natural death on August 10, 2025, at about 9:20 a.m.

The Corps Liaison Officer in Dambam LGA reported that, around 8:30 a.m., Christian corps members preparing for Sunday service noticed that Chukwuebuka, with state code BA/25A/2069, had not woken up,” Waziri said.

He added that the investigation is ongoing.

A similar case was recorded in 2023 in Adamawa State, when a corps member identified as Samuel reportedly slumped and died while watching a football match between Nigeria’s Super Eagles and South Africa’s Bafana Bafana.
