The Borno State Police Command has recovered and neutralised an unexploded Improvised Explosive Device (IED) discovered on farmland in Dikwa Local Government Area.
In a statement issued on Monday in Maiduguri, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Keneth Daso, said the device was spotted by a farmer, Babagana Kachalla, who promptly alerted security authorities.
Following the report, Commissioner of Police Naziru Abdulmajid dispatched the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Base 13 team from Maiduguri to the location.
“The area was immediately cordoned off in line with standard EOD-CBRN protocols.
The device, a Cluster Bomb Unit (CBU) measuring about 2.2 metres in length and 30 centimetres in width, was discovered partially buried,” the statement noted.
Specialised operatives carried out a controlled demolition at the site before extracting components of the device.
The operation was concluded without casualties or damage.
The police further used the opportunity to sensitise residents of the community on Explosive Ordnance Risk Awareness (EORA), urging them to report any suspicious objects for prompt action.
