The Anambra State House of Assembly has summoned Hon. Bernard Udemezue, member representing Ayamelum Constituency, over allegations that his social media posts accused the House of marginalising his constituency in the sharing of constituency allowances.

At plenary on Tuesday, lawmakers described the posts as “damaging” and a threat to both the image and safety of members.

Udemezue, who was elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, had shared comments online alleging that Ayamelum Constituency was excluded from constituency funds.

Raising a motion of urgent public importance, the member representing Aguata 2 Constituency, Hon. Tony Muobike, accused Udemezue of making statements capable of inciting the public.

“Most of the comments threaten the safety of the members of this eighth Assembly. It is a serious situation that should be investigated to avoid escalation,” Muobike said.

The motion was seconded by the Chief Whip, Jude Ngobili (Ihiala 1), and supported by other lawmakers, including Emma Nwafor (Orumba South) and Deputy Majority Leader, Nobel Igwe (Ogbaru 1).

They argued that the posts violated Order Seven of the House Standing Orders, which addresses abuse of legislative privilege, and could trigger a breach of public peace.

In his ruling, Speaker Somtochukwu Udeze referred the matter to the House Committee on Rules, Business, Ethics and Privileges, with a directive to report back by next Tuesday.
