The Nigeria Police Force has repatriated a notorious Chinese fugitive, Mr. Dai Qisheng, to Beijing after his arrest in Abuja.

Qisheng, a gang leader wanted in Guizhou Province for violent organised crimes, fled China in 2024 after the Public Security Bureau of Zhijin County issued a warrant for his arrest.

He was tracked and apprehended in the Federal Capital Territory on August 8, 2025, by operatives of the INTERPOL National Central Bureau (NCB), Abuja.

Force spokesperson Muyiwa Adejobi, in a statement on Sunday, said the suspect was repatriated to China on August 15 under the framework of police-to-police cooperation coordinated by INTERPOL, with support from NCB Beijing and the Chinese Embassy in Nigeria.

Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, hailed the operation as proof that Nigeria would not serve as a safe haven for international fugitives.

He stressed that the success highlighted the importance of intelligence-sharing and global partnerships in tackling transnational crime.

Egbetokun assured that the Force would continue to strengthen international cooperation, noting that the arrest and repatriation of Qisheng sent a clear warning to criminals worldwide that Nigeria will not harbour fugitives.
