The Osun State Police Command has commenced investigations into the death of a young woman, identified as Bidemi Omole, who died shortly after arriving at her boyfriend’s residence in Esa-Oke, Osun State.

Sources in the community said the incident occurred on Friday night around 9:30 p.m. at the home of her boyfriend, simply identified as Yinka, in the Oke Esa area.

Omole was said to have taken ill not long after she arrived at the house and reportedly began vomiting before collapsing.

She was rushed to a hospital but died on the way, according to police accounts.

The development threw the neighbourhood into panic, as residents trooped to the scene when news of her death spread.

A resident, who gave her name as Taye, said, “We heard cries for help and rushed to Yinka’s house. By the time I got there, security personnel were already around, but the crowd was overwhelming.

The lady usually attended vigils on Fridays, and it was believed she was on her way to one when the incident happened.”

Confirming the case on Sunday, the Police Public Relations Officer for the state command, Abiodun Ojelabi, said the matter was reported on Saturday.

He added that the deceased’s boyfriend had been arrested to assist investigations.

“From what the boyfriend told us, the deceased took ill after arriving at his house and started vomiting.

She was rushed to a hospital but gave up the ghost on the way.

The suspect is in custody, and an autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of death,” Ojelabi said.
