The Lagos State Government has condemned the assault on Vehicle Inspection Officers (VIOs) at Mile 2, warning that those responsible will face the full weight of the law.

Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, in a statement on Thursday, described the incident as “appalling and utterly reprehensible,” stressing that it would not go unpunished.

According to him, the officers were carrying out their lawful duties when they were attacked, an act he said was not only against the victims but also an affront to the authority of the state.

“To raise a hand against VIO officials is to undermine the rule of law, subvert public order, and desecrate institutions established to protect society.

The perpetrators will be relentlessly pursued, apprehended, and prosecuted,” Osiyemi declared.

He added that the injured officers were responding to treatment, while assuring that the government remains resolute in bringing the culprits to justice.

The commissioner reaffirmed the state’s commitment to safeguarding its personnel, stressing that criminal elements would not be allowed to intimidate or obstruct officials in the discharge of their duties.

Osiyemi said the government stands firmly with the assaulted officers, vowing to ensure their safety and dignity are protected at all times.
