Telecom mast recovered as Police arrest suspected vandal
The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested a suspected vandal and recovered a stolen telecommunications mast in Uyo.
Police spokesperson, DSP Timfon John, said in a statement on Friday that the arrest followed an intelligence-led operation carried out on Tuesday, September 2, at about 10:40 a.m.
According to her, operatives were deployed to Obong Sampson Idiong Drive, where a group was reportedly loading a vandalised telecom mast into a truck. On sighting the patrol team, the suspects fled, abandoning a green Isuzu truck with registration number AFG 517 XA.
“One suspect, a 30-year-old male, was arrested after a hot chase and is currently in custody cooperating with investigators,” she said.
The recovered truck and the dismantled mast have been taken into police custody, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend other fleeing suspects.
