The wife and daughter of Muhammad Swasun, chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Patigi Local Government Area of Kwara State, have been kidnapped by gunmen.
The state police command confirmed the abduction on Sunday through its spokesperson, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, who said security operatives were already working with other agencies to rescue the victims.
“I can confirm the incident to you. However, the command is waiting for full details from the division where the incident happened.
As it is, the wife and daughter of the APC chairman in the area were kidnapped,” Ejire-Adeyemi told Peoples Gazette.
She added that the police have launched an operation to track down the perpetrators and secure the release of the victims.
The attack came just hours after suspected gunmen shot dead a 45-year-old resident, identified as Alhaji Dahiru, while he was praying in a mosque.
According to the police, the victim was killed after resisting his attackers, who fled the scene under unclear circumstances.
Kidnappings and killings have become increasingly frequent in parts of Kwara, particularly in Ifelodun, Edu, and Patigi LGAs, where residents continue to urge government and security agencies to intensify efforts to tackle the crisis.
Only last month, Governor Abdulrahman Abdurasaq met with stakeholders in Ifelodun, where he reiterated his administration’s commitment to strengthening security and improving infrastructure across the state.
