The Edo State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has vowed to track down those responsible for the killing of eight of its operatives in Okpella, Etsako East Local Government Area.
The personnel were ambushed late Friday night while escorting Chinese expatriates working at the BUA cement factory.
The attackers, suspected to be kidnappers, abducted one of the five expatriates during the assault.
Speaking on Monday, the Command’s spokesperson, Efosa Ogbebor, said investigations were ongoing while operatives, in collaboration with other security agencies, were combing nearby forests to apprehend the culprits.
“The Corps is not taking this lightly. Those behind the attack must and will be brought to justice. There is no hiding place for them,” Ogbebor said.
He added that the NSCDC national headquarters had taken over arrangements for the burial of the slain officers and was also attending to the welfare of their families.
On the kidnapped expatriate, Ogbebor said he was not aware of any contact with the abductors but assured that efforts were underway to secure his release.
