A Wuse Magistrate Court in Abuja has ordered the remand of a 27-year-old man, Chidera Njoku, at a correctional facility for allegedly threatening to kill his mother.
Njoku, who resides in Kabusa Village, Abuja, is facing a six-count charge of threat to life, assault, theft, extortion, mischief, and criminal intimidation. He pleaded not guilty.
Prosecutor C.C. Okafor told the court that the case was reported on August 21 by the defendant’s mother, Ngozi Njoku, at the Kabusa Police Station. He alleged that the defendant stole her belongings, including a mobile phone worth ₦140,000, a 10kg gas cylinder, five litres of oil, and six bags of charcoal.
Okafor further said Njoku turned violent when confronted by his sister, assaulting her with a motor engine belt and inflicting serious injuries.
He allegedly demanded ₦200,000 from his mother and threatened to kill her if she refused.
