As ex-bureaucrats commend Gov on reduction of govt debts

Ondo State Governor, Dr. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the welfare of retired Heads of Service and Permanent Secretaries, describing them as senior citizens whose sacrifices laid the groundwork for the state’s progress.

The Governor gave the assurance on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, when he hosted members of the Association of Retired Heads of Service and Permanent Secretaries in his office. He stressed that his government values their contributions, noting that their experience remains crucial to effective governance.

He praised the association for setting up a Development Initiative Committee and pledged that recommendations aligning with the state’s development agenda would be given serious consideration.

On the issue of pensions and entitlements, Governor Aiyedatiwa acknowledged the need for harmonization and upward review in line with current realities, adding that the government would study their requests in line with available resources. He also gave assurances that the new secretariat building of the association in Alagbaka, Akure, would not be affected by the ongoing facelift of the state capital. He further disclosed that the long-awaited constitution of the Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM) board would soon be finalized.

Earlier, the President of the Association, Mrs. Grace Ajayi, led the delegation to the Governor’s office, where she expressed appreciation for the appointment of some of their members into political offices, particularly as Chairman and Members of the Civil Service Commission.

Beyond the welfare of its members, the association pledged continued partnership with government, offering professional advice to strengthen policymaking and governance. Members recalled their past interventions in areas such as security, environmental management, and housing development, noting that a recent committee also submitted recommendations on boosting the state’s investment portfolios.

The group commended Governor Aiyedatiwa’s achievements under the “OUR EASE” agenda, particularly in reducing government debts and ensuring prompt payment of workers’ salaries, pensions and gratuities.

Also speaking, the Financial Secretary of the Association, Dr. Lawrence Ibukun, appealed to government to harmonize and review their benefits upward to reflect today’s economic realities.

The event was attended by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Taiwo Fasoranti; Chief of Staff, Prince Segun Omojuwa; Head of Service, Mr. Bayo Philip; and Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Igbekele Ajibefun.
