The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested seven suspects linked to a string of robberies targeting students of tertiary institutions in the state capital.

Police spokesperson, Ahmed Wakil, disclosed the arrests in a statement on Friday, noting that they followed weeks of intelligence gathering and investigations.

He recalled that on August 12, 2025, armed robbers attacked students of the Federal Polytechnic, Bauchi, sparking unrest in the area.

Those arrested include: Mansur Yakubu (20), alias Chasu; Abbas Auwal (20), alias Abe; Musa Bala (20), alias Baban Nani; Aliyu Ahmadu (21), alias Yellow; Zurkarlaini Aliyu (20), alias Baki; Muftahu Ibrahim (20), alias Dodo; and Hamza Bala (29), alias R-Kelly.

The suspects reportedly confessed and named 13 accomplices.

One of them, Adamu Lawan (18), also known as Daddy, was picked up by detectives from Yelwa Division on September 1.

During interrogation, he admitted to organising the Federal Polytechnic robbery, saying about 20 men from Birshin Fulani, Birshi Gandu, Lushi, and other areas took part.

The gang allegedly invaded student hostels, stealing phones, laptops, and power banks, which they later sold. Adamu confessed to selling three phones, Oppo, Samsung, and Infinix, for ₦40,000 through an associate identified as Salmanu, alias Papus.

Wakil added that the gang had also been terrorising residents of Yelwa, Birshi Gandu, Birshin Fulani, and Gwallameji, breaking into homes with dangerous weapons, injuring occupants, and fleeing to neighbouring states afterward.

In a related development, police foiled another robbery at Abubakar Tatari Ali Polytechnic.

On September 9, 2025, the institution’s Chief Security Officer reported the theft of a Jincheng motorcycle. Detectives from B Division, GRA, swiftly intervened, rescuing a suspect, Salisu Musa (25) of Mararraban Liman Katagum, from mob action and recovering the stolen motorcycle.

The suspect confessed and is currently assisting police with investigations into other motorcycle theft cases.
