The Ondo State Police Command has arrested two men linked to violent unrest in Eki/Oboto community, Ilaje Local Government Area, following a land dispute that escalated after a court judgment.

The suspects, identified as Ogunsemore Gbadebo and Michael Ogunsemore, were said to have rejected the June 20, 2025 ruling of the Court of Appeal in Akure, which reaffirmed the authority of the traditional ruler of Aboto, HRM Oba Oyetayo Ofoaye, in the disputed land matter.

According to police investigations, the duo allegedly recruited armed thugs to attack residents of Eki/Oboto, leading to the destruction of huts, palm produce and other property.

One resident, Jeremiah Okuntimehin, sustained machete cuts during the violence, while several people were displaced.

Spokesperson of the command, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, confirmed in a statement that the suspects have already been arraigned in court, while efforts are ongoing to arrest other fleeing accomplices.

Commissioner of Police, CP Adebowale Lawal, warned that the Command would not condone any attempt to undermine judicial decisions or resort to self-help in communal disputes.

He urged residents to remain calm, law-abiding and cooperative with security agencies, assuring them of adequate police presence in the affected areas.

Lawal also commended the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, for his leadership, and Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa for supporting peacebuilding initiatives that have helped restore calm in the state.
