Two officers of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) have been abducted by suspected armed bandits in Benue State.
The incident reportedly occurred in Ukum Local Government Area while the officers were returning from duty at a border location in Ugbema, Buruku LGA.
Sources said the victims, who serve at the Immigration Forward Operations Base in Adikpo, headquarters of Kwande LGA, were intercepted by local bandits.
A senior NIS officer, who asked not to be named, confirmed the abduction but declined to provide further details. “The report is true, but I don’t have details about the incident,” he said.
When contacted on Friday, the Public Relations Officer of the NIS in Benue, Stanley Tyough, said he could not issue any official statement at the moment. “Sorry, I don’t have any official information to give you now, but I will keep you posted as events unfold,” he stated.
Although local sources claimed the incident had been reported at the Divisional Police Station in Kwande, the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Edeme Udet, said she was yet to receive any information on the matter.
