Ogun moves to prosecute saw miller for beating wife ‘mercilessly’

The Ogun State Government has vowed to prosecute a saw miller, Fatai Quadri, after a viral video showed him violently assaulting his wife in Ilese Ijebu, Ijebu North East Local Government Area.

In the disturbing footage, Quadri was seen repeatedly punching the woman in the head and neck as she cried out in Yoruba, “Fatai ma pa mi” (“Fatai, please don’t kill me”).

Neighbours alleged the attack was not an isolated incident, claiming he had a history of beating his wife.

One resident, who filmed the assault on September 15, 2025, reportedly released the video after becoming fed up with the repeated abuse.

The Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, confirmed on Saturday that Quadri had been arrested and was under investigation.

He disclosed that the case had been transferred to the Gender Unit of the command.

Ogun State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Oluwasina Ogungbade (SAN), described the assault as “very reprehensible,” stressing that the government would ensure justice is served.

He confirmed that the suspect would be arraigned in court on Monday.

“The government is aware of the viral video and we condemn it in its totality.

The suspect is in police custody already. This matter will be prosecuted, and it will drive home our zero-tolerance stance against gender-based violence,” Ogungbade said.

Also reacting, Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Adijat Adeleye, assured residents that the government would follow the case closely.

“Our position has always been zero tolerance for gender-based violence. Definitely, the suspect will account for his misdeeds. Justice will be served,” she said.

The state government has repeatedly warned against criminal acts, particularly domestic violence, and said the case would serve as a reminder of its commitment to protecting victims of abuse.
