The Kano State Command of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) has announced that 68 inmates successfully passed the 2025 National Examination Council (NECO) examinations.

The command’s spokesperson, Musbahu Lawan, disclosed this in a statement on Monday, noting that the achievement was made possible under the Centre for Inmates’ Continuity Education, fully sponsored by the Kano State Government.

He explained that the initiative aligns with the Correctional Service Act, 2019, which prioritises rehabilitation and reformation of inmates through education and vocational training.

“This success also reflects the directive of the Controller-General of Corrections, Sylvester Indidi-Nwakuche, urging all custodial centres nationwide to enrol inmates in academic and vocational programmes to equip them with knowledge and skills for reintegration into society,” the statement read.

Lawan added that the inmates expressed excitement over their performance, describing it as a life-changing experience.

The Controller of Corrections in Kano, Ado Inuwa, also commended the candidates, expressing confidence that education would aid their reformation.

Chairperson of the Prerogative of Mercy, Azumi Namadi-Bebeje, congratulated the inmates and praised Governor Abba Yusuf for his support of their welfare.

She reiterated the state government’s commitment to providing educational opportunities for inmates, saying it would help them return to society as productive citizens.
