Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has hinted that he may abandon his 2027 presidential ambition if a younger, vibrant and widely acceptable candidate emerges under the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Speaking in an interview with BBC Hausa Service on Wednesday, Atiku stressed that his political interest is not driven by personal ambition but by a desire to provide Nigerians with a credible alternative.
He urged young Nigerians to actively engage in politics, assuring that he would fully support any candidate capable of uniting the people and leading the country forward.
“My being in the 2027 race does not prevent anyone from contesting.
If a vibrant and widely accepted younger candidate emerges, I am willing to step aside,” Atiku said.
The former Vice President dismissed claims of desperation, insisting his priority is to help rescue Nigeria from those he described as having held the nation hostage.
