Human rights activist and political commentator, Deji Adeyanju, has cautioned Nigerians not to succumb to pressure from deceptive displays of wealth and success on social media, which he described as “fake life.”
Adeyanju gave the advice in a post on X (formerly Twitter) while reacting to the demolition of a car stand in Lagos.
He clarified that the demolished property belonged to his friend, Elvis of SKYWISE Autos, and not to a man who had been flaunting it online as his own.
According to him, the individual in question only rented a small office at the car lot but used social media to project a false image of ownership.
“The car stand demolished in Lagos was for my friend Elvis of SKYWISE Autos, but one guy who rented a mini office there was claiming ownership.
If you like, believe online fake life on the gram and let them put you under pressure,” Adeyanju wrote.
The activist said the incident highlights how easily people are deceived by curated online lifestyles, warning that such illusions often lead to unnecessary competition, anxiety, and misplaced priorities.
