The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a 49-year-old man, Azeez Lamidi, for allegedly engaging in unlawful conduct involving a 14-year-old girl, which reportedly led to a medical emergency.

Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka Olushola, said in a statement on Thursday that the suspect, a resident of No. 64 Eegun, Akoko, was apprehended following a complaint lodged at the Ogbagi Police Station on October 9, 2025.

According to the report, the case came to light after the girl was taken to a hospital in Ogbagi-Akoko, where medical personnel confirmed that she had suffered complications believed to be related to a drug-induced condition.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect had allegedly been involved in repeated acts of abuse, and later gave the minor substances that resulted in health complications.

The victim has since been referred to the State Specialist Hospital, Igbatoro, for comprehensive medical care, while the suspect remains in police custody.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Adebowale Lawal, has directed that the case be transferred to the Command’s Gender Unit for discreet and thorough investigation.

He strongly condemned the act and restated the Command’s commitment to ensuring justice for victims of gender-based violence.

Lawal commended the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, for his leadership and continued efforts to strengthen the capacity of the police to address cases involving vulnerable persons.

The Commissioner further warned against all forms of exploitation and abuse, assuring that the police will not relent in bringing offenders to justice.

He urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspected cases to the nearest police station.
