Following Wednesday’s road accident involving a cement-laden truck in Akungba Akoko, Akoko Southwest local government area of Ondo state, Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has visited the scene and equally commiserated with the families of the victims.
The Ondo state governor, who was represented by his deputy, Olayide Adelami, on Thursday, paid a visit to the palace of the Alale of Akungba Akoko, Oba Isiaka Oseni, to condole with him and the community over the unfortunate incident.
He said, “We received the unfortunate news with rude shock and as a government, we are deeply saddened. Kabiyesi, we commiserate with you, and the entire people of Akungba Akoko. We shall take the necessary steps to prevent future occurrence”
The governor also went to the scene of the accident, where he met with students of the Adekunle Ajasin University Akungba Akoko (AAUA) and some locals.
“We feel your pain” he sympathized with a crowd of mourners, saying the incident was preventable if the truck driver had adhered to traffic regulations put in place by the government and highway code.
The governor revealed that plans have been concluded to restore the permanent barricade and access ramps that were damaged by the long vehicle and to ensure strict compliance with traffic instructions along the Ikare-Akungba highway.
Earlier in his response, the Alale of Akungba Akoko, Oba Isiaka Oseni, thanked the governor for the condolence visit, as he mentioned all the steps he has taken to sustain peace and security in the town since installed as king.
In this same vein, General Secretary of the Adekunle Ajasin University Akungba Akoko Student Union Government, Bakare Abiodun, pleaded with government to enforce strict compliance with traffic instructions on the road and bring violators to justice.
The governor was accompanied by the state commissioner for energy and mineral resources, Engr Johnson Alabi, the state Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, Chairman Akoko Southwest local government, Ayo Ajana, Vice Chancellor of AAUA, Prof. Olugbenga Ige and Secretary of the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Mr Frederic Orunko, among others.
