A motorcyclist was killed on Thursday morning in a fatal crash involving a Honda Accord and a truck along the Apapa–Oshodi Expressway in the Ibafon area of Lagos.
The accident, which occurred around 11:30 a.m., caused a brief gridlock as passersby gathered at the scene.
According to eyewitness accounts, the crash happened when a speeding truck was overtaken by a Honda Accord, while the motorcyclist, reportedly riding against traffic, collided head-on with the vehicle.
An eyewitness identified simply as Tunde said, “The truck brushed the car, and the driver lost control.
The car veered off its lane and hit the okada rider directly. The impact was so strong that the rider died instantly.”
Following the collision, the truck driver fled the scene, abandoning the vehicle and the victim’s body.
Police officers later arrived to restore order, cordoned off the area, and detained the driver of the Honda Accord for questioning.
The remains of the deceased were evacuated shortly after, while efforts were ongoing to contact his family as of press time.
