Three persons were killed in a fatal accident along the Gboko–Aliade road in Benue State on Friday.

The incident occurred at Luga, a suburb of Gboko, and claimed the lives of two brothers and a young woman who were all riding on a Bajaj motorcycle.

Eyewitnesses said two heavy-duty trucks were driving side by side at high speed on the narrow road when one of them, unable to avoid the motorcycle, rammed into it from behind, killing the three occupants instantly.

The victims’ bodies were later evacuated to a mortuary in Agidi, another nearby community, while both trucks were taken to the police station in Gboko.

Confirming the incident, the chairman of a local transport association, Adamu Alfa, described the crash as “unfortunate and deeply saddening.”

He explained that the company involved regularly organises safety and sensitisation sessions for its drivers to promote responsible conduct on the road.

Witnesses identified the deceased brothers as Orgem Ugondo and Aondozungwe Ugondo from the Mbatan kindred in Mbayion, Gboko Local Government Area.

The female passenger, who was reportedly given a lift by the brothers on their way home, had not yet been identified as of press time.
