Human rights activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has regained his freedom after fulfilling the bail conditions granted by a Magistrate Court sitting in Kuje, Abuja.

Sowore was released alongside Nnamdi Kanu’s Special Counsel, Aloy Ejimakor, Kanu’s younger brother, Prince Emmanuel Kanu, and twelve other protesters who were detained at the Kuje Correctional Centre.

The group had been arrested by operatives of the Nigeria Police Force during a demonstration tagged #FreeNnamdiKanuNow held in Abuja last week.

They were arraigned on Friday before Magistrate Abubakar Umar Sai’id on charges of unlawful assembly and disturbance of public peace.

In his ruling, Magistrate Sai’id granted each defendant bail in the sum of ₦500,000, with conditions including the presentation of a verified National Identification Number (NIN), three-year tax clearance certificates, and the surrender of their international passports.

After meeting the bail requirements, the activists were released from custody on Monday.

Sowore’s arrest last Thursday occurred shortly after he departed the Federal High Court in Abuja, where he had attended another proceeding.
